CHATHAM -- Funeral services for Burton Freese, 69, of Smith Rd., Chatham, were conducted this afternoon from the Waite Funeral Home, Medina, by the Reverend W. H. Bryenton, the retired pastor of the Brunswick Methodist Church who married Mr. Freese and his wife, Wanette, 48 years ago this month.

Mr. Freese died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Lodi Hospital, ending a lengthy illness.

Born December 6, 1889, in Brunswick, Mr. Freese had lived and farmed in Chatham for the past 19 years. He was a life member of the Brunswick Methodist Church.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Orlin, Medina; a daughter, Twila Humiston, Lakemore; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willard, Cleveland, and Clyde, Brunswick; and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Jordan, Orwell.

Clyde Ulysses Freese was born February 19, 1901 in Brunswick. When Clyde was young he had long curly hair. His brothers cut off the curls when Clyde was about six years old. They were as precious as gold to her. Clyde died in 1968. He is buried in Westview Cemetery in Brunswick.

Sarah died March 16, 1936, probably at the home of her daughter Elizabeth Jordan. According to Margaret Heath, there was a huge spring blizzard the day of Sarah's funeral. "She was in the front parlor. I can still remember how the casket set even though I was only four. There was a huge blizzard and I stood at the window and watched the many neighbors shovel the snow out of the road so that they could have the funeral." Sarah's obituary appeared in The Chronicle Telegram of Elyria, Ohio for April 2, 1936.
