GOTTLIEB BEHNER, SR. (b. 1815)
Milton Behner and wife Luella Behner were Clara's parents.
Caroline (Behner) Benzler's children were as follows:
Katherine Rosannah Benzler
Roy Benzler (Died at age 5, head trauma from falling onto steps)
Apparently Milton and Caroline were brother and sister.
Clara Behner married Earl carpenter (1st marriage) and moved to Washington
State and had two children, One of the children ended up in Austrailia,
the other unknown (there may be discrepency in the name Earl as being
Claras husband or one of her children). Clara had troubles in Washington
State with her first marriage due to eating the habits of her husband.
(bear with me) It seems that whatever game that Claras husband had killed
he insisted on eating it raw. So Clara packed her travelling trunk,
loaded it on a train and supposedly hitch-hiked across the country back
to the Marion-Bucyrus, Ohio area where she had met and married a William
Hughs. (Clara never did know of the whereabouts of her first two children
with the exception of one of them moving to Australia) - This memoir
courtesy of Beulah Weiser(Clara's 2nd cousin)
note: Clara and Catherine Rosannah Behner were 1st cousins.
The Behners moved to this area of Ohio (which they called Little Germany)
because of agricultural purposes. Beulah Wesier said that the reason
for departing Germany was for religious freedom. .
